Children’s Religious Exploration
Mission
Our Mission is to create a safe and welcoming spiritual home for children and youth through creative exploration of the Unitarian Universalist Principles and Sources.
Aspiration
We aim to:
- Nurture compassion and critical thinking
- Instill a passion for social action
- Develop each child’s/youth’s sense of place in the larger Summit, Unitarian Universalist, and global communities.
Responsibilities
- Have a Sunday morning Religious Exploration program that teaches Unitarian Universalist identity, history, principles and sources.
- Provide age-appropriate social action education and opportunities.
- Provide age-appropriate opportunities with cluster, district and denominational UU’s.
- Provide additional programs to support healthy whole-person development in a safe community, including Our Whole Lives (OWL), Coming of Age (COA), clubs, etc.
- Work towards providing a Lifespan Religious Exploration Program for Summit, which includes: Children’s Religious Exploration Committee & Subcommittees, Youth-Adult Empowerment Committee, Young Adult Group, Adult Life Enrichment classes & groups
- Provide opportunities for authentic inter-generational activities within Summit.
Specific Measurable Goals 2021-2022
- To continue to offer virtual Religious Exploration for our children, youth and families.
- To support families with spiritual resources like “Chalice Home” each month via the newsletter.
- To nurture and support volunteers who work with our children and youth.
- To create opportunities monthly for safe in person gatherings in alignment with local health orders and Summit UUF Board approval.
- To continue to create Sunday story experiences for all ages by working with guest presenters, the Sunday Service Committee and Rev. Everett.
- To participate in and support our youth through District Coming of Age in 2020.
- To support our youth in participating in virtual district events like Camp, Con’s and Leadership Trainings.
- To continue to offer and participate in virtual trainings that will support the Summit Religious Exploration program.
- To return to in person Sunday gatherings once the Summit Board and local Health departments deem it safe to do so. This will involve a gearing up of the RE program to return to in person gatherings.
General Goals 2021-2025
- To gather in person as we create the new CRE program post pandemic.
- To support our youth in participating in district events like Camp, Con’s and Leadership Trainings.
- To return to in person Sunday services with a virtual component for folks that are still needing to be at home.
- To connect with our families with our CRE Mission and work in partnership to meet the needs of our families while supporting the mission of the committee.
- To revise the membership of the CRE Committee and conduct monthly meetings as needed.
- To continue to work with the Adult Religious Exploration.
