What We Do
One way to know what a spiritual community is about is by what they do. Summit is a congregation of “doing,” whether it is caring for those in need, showing up for social justice, enjoying each other through activities, or raising money to keep the lights on, Summit members are generous with their time, their hearts, their talents, and their resources. We also like to have fun!
How We Care
Summit UU Fellowship cares for its members and the communities in our hurting world. The Caring Committee is a dedicated group of volunteers who keep in touch with those needing extra support, be it rides to appointments, or cards and calls of support. The Caring Committee is in communication with the minister to ensure the sick or isolated feel connected and supported.
Summit’s Social Justice in Action Committee is another way Summit shows up with care. The Santee Food Bank, Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility, Kiva, Interfaith Shelter, Homelessness, Black Lives Matter, LGBTQIA, Indigenous People, Climate Change, and Compassion for African Villages are some of the areas of work SJAC focuses on.
There are many more interactive and social ways Summit shows its care. Organized gatherings like the Men’s Group, Women’s Group and Covenant Groups are different ways Summit members can be together, get to know each other and share their lives in confidential and nourishing environments. Whenever Summit community members are together there is an opportunity to grow deeper spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually. We value our time together and staying connected even during the months of COVID-19 pandemic.
Fundraising and Summit’s Annual Pledge Drive is what keeps this the staff, the Sunday services, and the Children Religious Exploration program going. Financial giving is essential, but is can also be fun. Summit’s yearly auction not only raises a significant amount of money but it provides opportunities to meet others; from auction items like theme dinners, classes, and outings.
Summit is a lively and loving community, we hope you will join us for one of our hybrid Sunday services and get to know us better!
