What Letting Go Really Means

Wisdom traditions around the world counsel us to “let go.” In Hinduism it’s called renunciation, in Buddhism it’s non-attachment, in Daoism it’s wu-wei, and in Christianity it’s kenosis (emptying out). But what does that really mean? Let go of what? And why? Let’s explore the deeper meanings of these spiritual teachings, and the practical impact this practice would have in our everyday lives.

About the Speaker:

Peter Bolland is professor of philosophy and humanities and department chair at Southwestern College. He received his BA in religious studies from UC Santa Barbara and an MA in Philosophy from SDSU. In addition to his college commitments, he lectures in a wide variety of venues on philosophical, spiritual, and mythological subjects. His talks through Oasis and Osher are typically sold out, and he has participated in services and workshops and retreats at several UU congregations.
