In his provocative book Cultivating Empathy: The Worth and Dignity of Every Person—Without Exception, UU ministerial colleague Nate Walker calls us to practice deeper empathy in our day-to-day lives. Drawing from his years as a parish minister in Staten Island and Philadelphia, Rev. Walker challenges us all to resist “otherizing” people by either demonizing or romanticizing them. Rev. Ned will explore Nate’s challenge to use our moral imagination as an everyday spiritual practice to increase our capacity to meet others with empathy – and to find our relationships transformed in the process.
Rev. Ned Wight is Summit’s beloved Minister Emeritus. He retired from active ministry at the UU Congregation at Shelter Rock in Manhasset, NY, in 2019.
