Hope is a fun word. It can be a verb: “Here’s hoping!” “I hope you are doing well.” “I sure hope I left enough food for the fish.” (A conflicted verb — “hoping against hope?”) It can be the childhood home of a U.S. president. It is also a noun, representing that quality which we all possess. But that quality implies — if not demands — another noun: action. Hope without action is not so fun. It is more of a gamble. In all too many cases, it is a losing bet, and kind of pathetic, really.
