One of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s most well-known quotations is that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” King was memorably summarizing a longer quotation by the Unitarian minister Theodore Parker from the 1850s. But the question remains, what makes the arc bend towards justice? It must be more than just our intentions… we have to learn how to translate our intentions into effective actions.
