Celebration of Life for John Slaughter

@ 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM America/Los Angeles Timezone

Dear Summit members and friends,

This Saturday, December 9th, at 11:00 a.m., our community will gather for a service to celebrate the life of long-time Summitarian John Slaughter, beloved husband to member Lynne Slaughter and friend of many in our fellowship. I hope you will join us as we share the grief of John’s passing, remember who he was to us, and bless his life in story, poetry and song. It is certain to be a beautiful and reflective service and all are invited to attend.
John was a humble and somewhat quiet man, who was passionate in his pursuits, yet did not readily call attention to himself. He was hard-working, creative, dedicated to his family, to music, to his profession as a teacher, and to his avocations as a carpenter, woodworker, and builder of fine guitars. He had an earnest dedication to the field of scientific cosmology and would, after Sunday Service, on occasion engage me and others in conversations about the nature and meaning of the universe.
As his health declined, Lynne and his family cared for him faithfully through many long and difficult days. John died peacefully under the care of Hospice, on November 1.
Come Saturday and share your love and support for Lynne, Kyle, and the rest of John’s constellation of family and friends. There will be an informal time of singing folk and traditional music in John’s honor at a reception in the Summit Salon following the service, so bring your guitar, banjo, autoharp, dulcimer, spoons, washboard or whatever, and be prepared to make noise both sad and joyful.
Love always,
-Rev. Frank
